Trial timing is one of the most common bridal planning questions we get — book too early and it won't reflect your actual day-of hair, book too late and there's no room to adjust anything.
What's the ideal trial window?
8-12 weeks before the wedding is the sweet spot for most brides. That's close enough that your hair length, any recent color, and your general hair health closely match what you'll have on the day, while leaving enough runway to make real changes if the first attempt isn't quite right. Why not book the trial right after getting engaged?
Because hair changes over months — length, color, even how it holds a curl can shift with the seasons and your own haircare routine. A trial done 6 months out risks being a preview of hair that no longer matches your day-of reality, especially if you're also planning a color change or a straightening treatment in the meantime.
Why not book it the week of the wedding instead?
Because a trial the week of leaves zero room to fix anything. The entire point of a trial is testing the look with time left to adjust — a different pin placement, a different level of volume, a different style altogether if the first idea doesn't translate the way you pictured it. A trial with no runway left isn't really a trial, it's just a rehearsal of whatever happens to work on the first try.
What should I bring to the trial?
- ›Reference photos (2-3 is plenty — more can be indecisive rather than helpful)
- ›Your veil or hairpiece, if you already have one
- ›A photo of your dress neckline — necklines change which updo heights and styles will actually look balanced in photos
- ›Any hair accessories you're considering
Does the trial need to happen after any planned color or straightening treatment?
Yes — always. If you're planning to color your hair or get a permanent straightening treatment like Rebond Xtenso before the wedding, get that done first, then book the trial on top of the finished result. See our [straightening-before-your-wedding timeline guide](/tips/rebond-before-your-wedding-timeline) for exactly how to sequence that.
What happens after the trial?
We take detailed notes (and photos) of everything confirmed at the trial — exact style, product used, timing — so the day-of team executes precisely what you approved, not a rough memory of it.
