We offer four different ways to get straighter hair, and they're genuinely not interchangeable — they differ in how permanent the result is, how much chemical processing is involved, and what kind of hair each one suits best. Here's how to pick.

What's the difference between Rebond Xtenso and Nano Protein Straight?
Both are permanent — the difference is the chemistry. Rebond Xtenso uses a relaxant to break the hair's internal bonds and reform them straight, which is the stronger, more reliable option for very coarse or tightly curled hair. Nano Protein Straight instead infuses and heat-seals protein into the shaft, which is gentler on hair structure and tends to leave a softer, less "flat" finish — but can be less effective on very resistant curl patterns. See our full [Nano Protein Straight breakdown](/tips/nano-protein-straight-what-to-know) for more on how it works.
When should I choose Iron-Straight instead of a permanent option?
If you just want sleek, straight hair for one event — a wedding guest look, a job interview, a single humid-season day — Iron-Straight is a plain heat styling service with zero chemical commitment. It washes out with your next shampoo. It's not a fix for chronically frizzy hair; for that, see Smoothing Treatment or one of the permanent options above.
What does Smoothing Treatment do differently from the permanent options?
Smoothing Treatment doesn't force hair pin-straight — it reduces frizz and cuts down blow-dry time while letting your natural wave or curl pattern still show through. Think of it as the middle ground: more lasting than Iron-Straight (results hold for weeks, not one wash), gentler than a permanent straightening process, and reversible as it grows out and washes out gradually rather than needing to "grow out" a straight-vs-curl demarcation line.
How do I decide?
Ask yourself two questions: How permanent do I want this? (one day → Iron-Straight; weeks → Smoothing Treatment; until it grows out → Rebond Xtenso or Nano Protein Straight) and How coarse/curly is my hair naturally? (very coarse or tightly curled hair usually responds best to Rebond Xtenso; most other hair types do very well with Nano Protein Straight's gentler process). Your stylist will confirm the right call for your specific hair at consultation — book any of the four and we'll steer you toward the right one if your hair tells a different story than expected.
